The University of York is located in the north east of England in the beautiful, historic city of York, just 2 hours away from London by direct train.
Founded on principles of excellence, equality and opportunity for all, the University of York opened in 1963 with just 216 students. In 2013, its 50th anniversary year, York was first in the UK and seventh in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) 100 under 50, a ranking of the world’s top 100 universities under 50 years old. York is ranked 113th leading university of the world in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-15 and 120 in the QS World University Rankings 2014. Several of our departments feature in the QS World University Subject Rankings, specifically Economics, English, Environment, History, Language and Linguistic Science, Psychology and Sociology.
There are over 30 academic departments and research centres. The student body has expanded to over 16,000 of which 23% are from overseas. There is a diverse student population of over 160 nationalities, including 27 students from Indonesia.
University life is centred around Heslington, a short walk from the city centre. The attractive parkland campus is compact, easy to get around and has a safe, friendly atmosphere.
Since 2000, the University has invested in 20 new buildings on the existing campus, Heslington West. The first phase of a £750m campus expansion has also been completed. This stunning development, Heslington East, includes four new departmental buildings, three colleges and a £9m sports village.
Full-time students who pay tuition fees at the overseas rate may be eligible for a Scholarship for Overseas Students.
This is a competitive scholarship based on academic merit.
The deadline for application is usually 30 April and you must hold an offer for study commencing in September to be eligible to apply.
Some departments also offer scholarships for specific degree programmes. More information is available at www.york.ac.uk/internationalscholarships.
