University of Surrey

Profile
Established since the 1960s, the University of Surrey has a teaching tradition and research standing out of proportion to its age and comparatively small size. Its undergraduate courses are designed to meet the UK national need for able, well-trained graduates to take responsible roles in industry, commerce or their chosen profession – a need reflected worldwide.

A strong focus on relevant and innovative research and teaching programmes, wide-ranging professional/industrial links and interaction with research institutions worldwide have established Surrey’s reputation as an international university. Surrey is consistently in the top three UK universities in its annual employment record.

Facilities
The University of Surrey has modern specialist laboratories, studios and equipment together with a well-stocked library and a large computer unit. Lectures take place in central lecture theatre blocks, all with modern audio-visual aids.

The Students' Union organises a wide range of recreational, sporting, social, cultural and hobby societies in its centrally located building. On the University site are a bank, launderette, hairdresser and several shops. Close by are a well-equipped sports hall and a large outdoor playing field area.

Accommodation
Several residential courts exist on the University campus, with quiet, single study-bedrooms. A further self-catering residential complex is situated some two miles away. All single international students are offered University accommodation throughout the normal duration of their courses. The courts have kitchen areas, so students can cater for themselves or take advantage of the many restaurants and snack bars throughout the campus.

Well-developed student support services exist, including an English Language Institute, Welfare, Health and Counselling Services, a Careers Service and an International Office which can assist with problems particular to the international community.

Location
Surrey is a small, modern university with a beautiful campus on a hill overlooking Guildford, the attractive county town of Surrey, just 30 miles south west of London. There are fast road and rail links with London. Surrey is a beautiful place to live and study, but close to the capital city, and within easy reach of many places of interest.
