Profile Canterbury Christ Church University College was founded in 1962 and is one of the largest and most popular in the university sector. Facilities The College has very good facilities which include a library with over 200,000 volumes and 800 periodicals, extensive computer facilities open to all students, TV and Radio Studios, a Students' Centre, a Fitness Centre and comprehensive sports facilities. To help you keep in touch, you will be able to use email and have access to the internet. The College is well situated on a modern purpose-built campus just five minutes walk from the centre of the city. Canterbury is a beautiful, historical city set in green countryside known as the 'Garden of England'. In addition to its famous cathedral Canterbury has good shops, restaurants, leisure and cultural facilities.
Accommodation and Welfare We recognise that studying abroad represents a major personal commitment. Our International Office deals with applications, enrolments and fees. It also provides a support service on campus for international students, to answer queries and help with any problems. Orientation on arrival and social activities are also arranged. Accommodation is guaranteed, either in student residence or with host families in Canterbury. You will be asked to state your preference when we offer you a place. Our specialised Study Support Unit will help you with any study or language problems that you may have while you are with us.
Location We are situated 95km from London. There is a frequent train service and the journey takes 1.5 hours. The main international airports, Heathrow and Gatwick are 2 hours away by train or coach. Canterbury is within easy reach of the Channel Tunnel and ports for visits to mainland Europe.
Additional Course Information Pre-sessional Courses Our programme of Pre-sessional English Language Courses and Study Skills are available to international students at all levels from elementary to advanced, with preparation for Cambridge and other examinations including IELTS.
MA/Diploma TESOL - Opportunities to upgrade your qualifications in Canterbury and your home country.
- For practising teachers with minimum 1 year's experience
- 9 month Diploma which can lead to MA TESOL by dissertation which can be completed in your home country
- Strong practical focus with four-week full-time Teaching Practice or Practical Project
- If you have the RSA/UCLES or Trinity Diploma or equivalent, you can join the 'Fast Track' MA TESOL option (one full term exemption).
- Accredited by the British Association of TESOL Qualifying Institutions (BATQI) and recognised by the British Council.
Distance Option
- Parts of the MA/Diploma TESOL can be studied at a distance. All students must study the first seven modules in Canterbury, but the final three modules and the MA stage can be completed at a distance.
- The whole MA TESOL can be taught overseas if there is a group of sufficient size.
