Profile The University of Brighton is a dynamic academic community with over 15,000 students from over 95 countries from around the world. We offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across broad academic areas in engineering, science, mathematics, built environment, computing and information, business and management, teacher training, health, social sciences, humanities, art and design.
The majority of courses are professionally orientated with national and international recognition, and in recent years the university has performed particularly well in its record of graduate employment. Many of our courses have an international element and have enjoy partnerships with higher education institutions world-wide.
International foundation courses at local further education colleges are an option for students' whose qualifications are below degree entry. If completed to a high enough standard, these one-year courses will guarantee a place on a University of Brighton degree course.
Facilities The university has excellent library, audio-visual and computing facilities. In our newest library, all study places have network links, to local and international information sources: connections can be made via students' own laptop computers as well as with PCs provided by the university. Altogether, our six libraries house over half a million volumes, 20,000 videos and 3,000 journals. The Computer Centre also provides invaluable resources to students with 25 pools of PC-compatible computers.
Accommodation and Welfare In addition to social activities, the university's orientation programme for international students provides guidance on accommodation, health, personal finance, immigration, English language assessment and study skills. Throughout the first study year, free English language tuition is given as part of the timetable and an academic study skills course is also available. An extensive range of accommodation options includes staying in the halls of residence, sharing flats and houses with other students, to living with a family. Fixed level fees, specialist welfare advice, free healthcare, with a doctor's surgery on each campus, are available to International students.
Location Brighton and Eastbourne (the site, of one of our four campuses) are popular with students for their mix of cosmopolitan life together with - beautiful coastline and countryside. Situated on the English Channel, the university is one hour by rail from London and only half an hour from London Gatwick Airport. |
