Recent Achievements
We are the UK's Number One New University according to the 2009 & 2010 editions of The Guardian University Guide.
We are placed 32nd overall in The Guardian University Guide for 2010. During the last two years alone, we have leapt a remarkable 47 places in this publication.
The Guardian University Guide for 2009 also placed us first for Tourism, Transport and Travel courses for the second consecutive year. In the 2010 Guide we are highly placed for Sports Science (2nd place, moving up 18 places); General Engineering (6th place) and Media (12th place).
In The Times Good University Guide, we achieved the greatest improvement of any English university over the last four years (2007 to 2010) rising 27 places to 58th out of the 114 institutions listed. We are now fifth amongst the UK’s post-1992 universities, having risen eight places from 13th four years ago.
We are the fourth most improved University in the country for the quality of research, according to the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, which confirmed that BU is producing research of a quality comparable with the very best in the world.
We have completed a multi-million pound investment in the Executive Business Centre on our Lansdowne Campus. The building will become a focal point for executive education, enterprise and entrepreneurship for the local business community and the wider region. It will also host the Business School’s postgraduate portfolio, including our new flagship programme, the Bournemouth MBA.
Since 2006 we have appointed 150 new academics to accelerate the development of our existing and potential centres of excellence.
We were voted by UK headteachers as the best for Tourism for three consecutive years (2005 to 2007) in a survey published in The Sunday Times University Guide.
The National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA) was voted number one for animation courses in the UK for two consecutive years (2007 and 2008) by 3D World magazine.
Over the last 30 years, more than 60,000 students have graduated from Bournemouth University and its predecessor institutions.
